My First Steps in the Digital Marketing World
‘You have missed using the primary keyword in the first heading. How do you think the page will rank on Google?’ Four years back, this was Hebrew to me. I had no idea about what a primary keyword is or why is it even relevant for Google. Above all, what is the first heading and why is it so important? But that’s how my digital marketing learning journey started.
Being a content writer for the past few years, I have gained a basic understanding of keywords, primary, secondary, and LSI. I learned about SERP and why is it important in writing content. However, the world of digital marketing is not restricted to these, it goes beyond keyword usage and writing content.
Let me ask you a few questions. Have you ever talked about a product and seen an ad for the same product pop up when you scroll through social media? Or, have you ever got stuck to a reel or a Facebook video and ended up following the page? Well, I have, and all these made me interested in learning more about the digital world.
You would agree if I say, digital marketing is the need of the hour. From a food vlogger to a major business, everyone depends on how well they use digital marketing. That was enough for me to step in and enrol with upGrad to learn all about the subject.
Let’s take you through my digital marketing journey so far.
The Baby Steps
I would not talk about how I found upGrad. Today, upGrad is almost synonymous with online learning. So, I had no second thoughts when I called them to learn about the digital marketing programme.
While the entire process was smooth, I was nervous about how to handle my studies and work simultaneously. The first few sessions worked well for me. The webinar session, especially, made me more interested in learning the subject.
The First Module
Believe it or not, studying for long hours, and making notes are something we all have left behind. Therefore, starting all over again was a bit tough. But they made it easy. The module on ‘Fundamentals of Marketing’ was self-explanatory and used amazing examples to make it easy.
For me, this was like revisiting my MBA days. I learned about the theories of marketing all over again and what they did was they used practical scenarios to explain every concept. Sounds easy, right? Well, not really. Wait till I talk about the tests.
First Graded Assessments
I won’t lie, I was scared about how the graded assessments will go. upGrad does not ask you to memorise and write an answer. Instead, they put you in a marketer’s shoes and ask you to analyse and answer questions based on marketing concepts.
It’s tough, but it’s fun. The point here is to learn marketing in a better way and understand how the theories are put into practice. I did make a few mistakes but did fairly well in the first graded assessment.
First Live Project
All these years I have written numerous blogs and articles. But when it came to creating a blog site and writing blogs, I struggled a lot. Thanks to the faculty of UpGrad, I was able to understand and create the blog site.
As Thomas Fuller, a.k.a the mental calculator said, ‘All things are difficult before they are easy,’ the live project is a burning example of it. However, thanks to the faculty and the student support team, I was able to understand the ways to create blogs using WordPress.
Final Thoughts,
It has been a great learning experience so far with upGrad. There are so many things to learn and upGrad makes everything very easy. The live sessions are interactive and the doubt clearing sessions are very helpful. Looking forward to a great journey and learning all about the world of digital marketing by the end of this course.
